Starting a new blog of any kind is always a little awkward in my opinion. I am never sure whether to jump straight in with normal posts or whether I start with an about me post which is what I find most awkward. So, I thought I’d do some bookish facts about me, since I am aiming for this to be primarily a book blog.
Here we go:
- I have had two bookstagrams before my current one – I first had a bookstagram in around 2015.
- I used to have a book blog before this one – and I was actually really consistent with it from what I remember! I really enjoyed it and I can’t really remember why I stopped, but I miss it, hence the reason I am starting up a new one. I want to start fresh instead of continuing with my old one.
- I love to annotate my books – I don’t do it very often as I don’t keep all the books I read, but occasionally I’ll annotated one if I am really enjoying it or it’s a reread of a favourite.
- My top 3 favourite books are probably Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune and Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
- It was Clockwork Angel that got me into reading in my teens
- It’s Kind of a Funny Story used to be my all time favourite book – Years have passed since I first read it and reread it and there’s now lines I find problematic and don’t agree with. I have had several psych ward admissions and in all honesty, it still has a special place in my heart. It’s just not one I recommend anymore.
- I am a mood reader – but often find it hard to pick my next read! I have to vary the way to pick my next read as identifying how I am feeling is really difficult for me. Sometimes I’ll use a prompt card, sometimes I’ll use my TBR jar, sometimes I will read the last book I bought and sometimes I know exactly what I want to read.
- I have many bookmarks but I tend to use the same ones – as I donate many of my unread books, I find I get worried I might accidentally donate a special bookmark!
- I love making book playlists – my current favourite is my ‘David and Genya’ one but frequently listen to my ‘Pretending to Be Jesper Fahey’ one when I need to do something that makes me anxious!
- I am very passionate about children’s literature and getting children reading – I wasn’t a huge reader when I was a child and these days, I wish I had been. There are so many good children’s books out there now too!
- I want to be a bookseller (also an author) – unfortunately I can’t work due to various health related issues. It makes me so sad at times, because I want more than anything to be able to go to work (almost) every day to go and sell books to people!
- So, I am currently a volunteer in a charity bookshop – I can only do Thursday and Friday mornings but it brings me that bit of working happiness. I help out with the children’s section in particular (as well as other bits and bobs like donation sorting and till work) and I love it!
- I love books (obviously) but not just for reading – don’t get me wrong, reading is great and I love it but all aspects of books makes me so incredibly happy. I find often that people are all about reading (which is completely fine!) but I get so much pleasure out of researching books, and owning books that I might not necessarily read cover to cover like coffee table books and reference books and all the bookish things that I find aren’t spread across bookstagram! I love it when people share picture books or reference books or books that aren’t a typical fiction book.
- I am good with book titles and authors names – not to brag! Obviously, I don’t remember every author and book title that I’ve heard of, but find I am quite quick to pick up and remember these things.
- However, I am terrible with remembering plots…but this makes the rereading experience great!
With this blog, I aim to do book reviews and recommendation lists and many other bookish content, but don’t be surprised if a slightly different post creeps in too!
